Most common Medicare Supplement Plans

Each and every Medicare Supplement plan includes coverage for Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used up. Here are comparisons for the rest of the coverage offered by Supplemental Medicare.

Plan F

Plan F covers all out-of pocket expenses left over from both part A and B, including deductables and copayments. This plan also includes nursing facility care, hospice copay, and foreign travel.

Plan G

Plan G covers all out-of pocket expenses not covered by Part A and Part B coinsurance. This plan also covers hospice coinsurance and copay, along with skilled nursing facility care coinsurance.

Plan N

Plan N covers up to $20 of the doctor’s office copay and $50 of the emergency room copay. Also included in this plan is skilled nursing home facilities, Part A hospice care coinsurance and copay, and foreign travel emergencies.

* Plan F also offers a high-deductible plan. If you choose this option, this means you must pay for Medicare-covered costs up to the deductible amount of $2,240 in 2018 before your Medigap plan pays anything.

** After you meet your out-of-pocket yearly limit and your yearly Part B deductible, the Medigap plan pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the calendar year.

*** Plan N pays 100% of the Part B coinsurance, except for a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 copayment for emergency room visits that don’t result in inpatient admission.
